Hiii everyone! Welcome back to the blog. The weather these past couple weeks in St Louis has been beautiful, even with the storms. I am definitely ready to go out and spend a little fun in the sun for Memorial weekend (covered in sunscreen of course). What are some makeup related posts you want to see from me for this coming summer? Video or blog post, I am happy to cover any topics or answer questions you might have as we head into summer and your products change. You can email me elizabethwolfmua@gmail.com or message me on Facebook here.
On with this week’s topic. Soo I wanted to take a second to get a little personal with you all…
…just to tell you how I got started in makeup, what did you think I was going to say haha.
I am often asked about how I got started doing makeup and how I’ve landed where I am. Hopefully, this topic wont bore you but will give you a look into my journey as a makeup artist. It has honestly been a long one that is FAR from over. My goal behind this is to be transparent with my clients and any of you who just enjoy the videos or pop in on the blog. You can trust me to recommend you great products and services and to share the knowledge I do have. I absolutely do not know everything about makeup (or business), not even close! But I hope the information I do have can help you feel more comfortable or interested in the makeup world. So today I will try to give the short and sweet version of when I started doing makeup, why I chose this as my career and what’s next for me as a makeup artist and entrepreneur.
How I got started doing makeup
Almost every client who sits in my chair asks me this exact question. Which I guess I’d be curious too as to how the girl applying makeup to my face started doing this as a job. My love of makeup began at the age most start paying attention to more to makeup when I was maybe 10 or 11. I loved getting Seventeen magazine and seeing the step-by-step pictorials of creating a smokey eye or bold red lip. By age 12 or so Youtube videos started coming out and subsequently makeup tutorial videos. Now I am talking back in the OG days of makeup tutorials (dulcecandy, makeupbytiffanyd, smlx0…I could go on and on). My obsession with makeup skyrocketed shortly after discovering such videos. I was amazed by all the products and tools and immediately started spending what very little money I had as a young teenager on makeup products. I would beg my mom for Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes and Mac lipstick for every birthday and Christmas. Along with discovering this amazing world of product, I started applying makeup on my friends, my sister, my mom, my aunts-anyone I could get my hands on. At that time I didn’t realize that doing makeup on other people could actually be a career, but I knew I loved doing it. I loved to see a look in a magazine and trying to recreate it on my friends.
